| Hi. My name is Matthew Johnson and I'm excited to join the Vantage Point family for the 2009-2010 school year. This is my 10 th year teaching and 11 th year in the lovely state of Colorado! Before moving to Colorado, I grew up in the Northern Illinois/Chicagoland area (Go Cubs!…Go Bears!). I attended Southern Illinois University (Go Salukis!) for my B.A. in Spanish and then decided to hit the road for a while to learn about the world, outside my personal bubble.
After traveling to Europe and living out of a backpack for a few months and visiting over 10 countries, I decided to “get a real job.” I chose to move to the Denver area and found a job working with At-risk youth at Denver Children's Home; a residential treatment center for kids ages 10-18. I fell in love with the alternative nature of the students and took a job there teaching.
At that point, I needed to go back to school and earn a teacher's license. I thought, while I'm at it, I may as well pay some more money and obtain a Master's degree. So, I enrolled at the University of Colorado at Denver to pursue a degree in special education.
For the last 5 years, I've taught at Northglenn High School (Go Norse!) as a special education teacher and chose to move here to Vantage Point at the beginning of this school year. I am proud to be able to now say, “Go Dragons!”
This year, my new wife and I found out that “we're” pregnant and expecting in April of 2010. We're very excited and can't wait to see how our dogs, Rosco (Weimaraner) and Princess (Yellow Lab) warm up to their new sibling!
Stop in and say hi!
